The Funambulist #68 Nov-Dec 2026 Masculinities and Coloniality Thinking Through the Gender and Racialization Nexus

In this issue, we examine the relationship between masculinities and coloniality. Such an examination requires particular delicacy, as it demands finding the most apt and balanced framework to shape our politics. We try to practice such a nuanced analysis arguing against the idea that colonial violence has the power to demasculinize people (Michaëla Danjé), examining post-traumatic fatherhood after the Indian Residental/Boading Schools in the Canadian and US settler colonies (Julian Brave NoiseCat), creating knowledge around Black masculinities in Brazil (Henrique Restier & Rolf Malungo de Souza), reflecting on queer male body vulnerabilities (Shakil Solanki), studying the history of China and eunuchs to observe how masculinity was politically constructed (Howard Chiang), and thinking with Black and Brown British men’s fantasies around Paris and Marseille (Hadeel Eltayeb). The cover and a comic within the issue were created for The Funambulist by Joseph Kai.
