The "12 Conversations" LP by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto is released on Noton. This double LP is pressed on two 12" records on black vinyl and comes in a tip-on sleeve with special coating; playback speed is 33⅓ rpm. The edition is available worldwide, except for Japan and Korea. The album continues the duo’s long-standing artistic connection, which began in 2002 with "Vrioon" and extended through the V.I.R.U.S. series as well as projects such as "Glass" and live documents into the more recent past. Stylistically, the record links Sakamoto’s matured piano sound and melodic subtlety with Alva Noto’s precise electronic shaping; the compositions work with subtle dynamic gradations, extended fields of sustain, and occasional digital interventions that create an atmosphere that is both cinematic and meditative. "12 Conversations" brings together twelve musical encounters, recorded in November and December 2022, that are closely linked to Sakamoto’s solo project "12"; the coherence of the material only made an independent release possible after those recordings were completed. The artwork is by Carsten Nicolai and Nibo, mastering was handled by Bo Kondren at Calyx Mastering in Berlin, and "Conversation 7" features the voice of Emma Maeda. The pieces range from wide‑ranging, contemplative dialogues to short, concentrated miniatures and document the duo’s ongoing interest in experimentation.
