“Mono No Aware” is the new album by Mind Safari, alias of Joao Melo. This 11th piece album, recorded in between Portugal and Uk, is a conceptual album made in collaboration with visual Portuguese artist Kruella D’Enfer. Both artists explored the Japanese concept of Mono no aware, an extended awareness and empathy for the path of things in different art formats. The end result is an immersive exhibition at Mono Lisbon (May 2024) with paintings, sculptures, texts and a live-act celebrating the launch of the physical album. In this album, Mind Safari explores the advantages of digital realm, implementing different techniques of audio and sampling manipulation with the aid of virtual instruments programmed by the artist himself. Combining these results with Virtual Studio Technology synthesiser and effects software, made “Mono No Aware” have its distinctive sound character. From emotional landscapes of synthetic sound made by pure sounds obtained in nature, to rhythmical pieces of sounds obtained in nature but modulated by synthetic sources, “Mono No Aware” is a heady musical exercise that seeks new sounds in old ones.
