Ana Moraes / Drope 2020 Priority Mail: from Portugal to Brasil

From Portugal to Brazil and from Brazil to Portugal, Drope 2020 and Ana Moraes bring the world of Priority Mail stamps from the American context to the Portuguese and Brazilian art scenes. Created originally for the United States Postal Service, the stickers quickly spread among artists thanks to their free availability. Their rectangular, mostly white format and the type of paper that allows for work with different materials provided significant space for creation. Over the course of two years, we gathered works by artists from various countries who, at one point, were in Portugal or Brazil. This selection features 50 artists who used the “Priority Mail” as an alternative support to leave their mark, transforming an object associated with transit and circulation into a space of expression that crosses places and languages
