el djinn الجن mā tmutish

mā tmutish (ما تموتش), an Arabic expression meaning "don't die," is the debut album by el djinn. The record emerges from a long, collective, and attentive process developed over several years, in direct dialogue with Palestinian voices. The album brings together texts, poems, traditional songs, and original recordings performed by Dima Mohammed, Nour El Tibi, Omar Hamad, Samano, Serenah Simao, Serene Issa, and Shahd Wadi, set to a beat that crosses Arabic, Portuguese, and English. In a collective work resulting from research begun in 2021, the voices appear as the central material of the album, carrying the poetry of memory, loss, care, anger, and persistence. The compositions were built from Palestinian voices of resistance and honor the mystical and the invisible. At various moments, the music emerges after the word, shaping itself to the rhythm of the language, the breath of the poem, the weight of silence and noise. The result moves between electronics, sound art, and ritual landscape, creating a space of dense and continuous listening. The title mā tmutish comes from a poem by Omar Hamad, written and recorded in a refugee camp in Gaza during genocide. The phrase, spoken as an intimate and repeated instruction, runs through the album as an ethical and political axis: a plea directed at oneself, at the children, at the land, at memory. All profits from this release will be distributed to the Ele Elna Elak project, a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to supporting Palestinian families in need.
