seven pieces for cello, electronics, audio feedback and resonant gong This work continues the exploration of the electroacoustic device titled “MEDUSA,” which the sound artist and cellist conceived with the aim of creating an amplification system with microphones positioned in different parts of the cello, and a multichannel diffusion method with contact speakers coupled to resonant objects. This approach expands the possibility of sonic fragmentation and dispersion of his actions on the body of the instrument, articulating its microscopic listening with the soundscape and the acoustics of the surrounding space. This recording is precisely the result of this organism in evolutionary mutation that Jacinto has been testing, strengthening, and refining over the last decade. It is grounded in this sonic territory where the cello is “remade” both from its wooden, metal, and horsehair entrails, as well as from the matter of the various electrical and digital transductions that operate within the “MEDUSA” system. Throughout the seven tracks of the album, the music navigates through largely textural sonic domains, contaminated by feedback, the inharmonic gong resonances, interwoven in a myriad of micro and macroscopic sounds where the experience of melodic and harmonic materials results in an enigmatic and original whole.
