"The don Jackson “Tapes” Bailey does dungeon synth style in his own image on a wicked 7” as The Mail Coif for his Medieval Ditties Compendium label. Taking an illuminated leaf from the grimoir of John T. Gast aka Young Druid, as well as the furtive ‘net sub-genre of dungeon synth music and proper old skool organ music, he really nails that erm, vintage feeling on both sides, dredging up foggy memories of chewing turnips by candlelight and watching witch burnings for fun. The A-side’s ‘Goblin Wizard Cauldron Spell’ bubbles acidic digi-dub and cobwebbed organ fanfare in a natty, cloaked style for the D&D massive, whilst ‘Maiden’s Mirror’ on the B-side pipes up with a more elegiac, weightless dirge for the ages that feels like the story-telling part of an RPG."
